VPSB67H3: Photography and Storytelling

This course will introduce students to the techniques and principles of contemporary digital photography. Students will learn digital camera and lighting fundamentals, post-processing using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, and digital printing workflow. In this course, landscape, still life, studio portraiture, and documentary practices will be discussed and analyzed to create a visual narrative through images. How can a single image be composed to tell a compelling story? And when sequenced, how do images create meaning, narrative, and understanding? This course will teach the critical history of photography with a focus on documentary, staged, and narrative approaches.
