This course aims to introduce students to critical engagements with translation and adaptation in the English-Chinese transcultural context. The course emphasizes the ideological implications and power dynamics in translation and adaptation between works in different media. Students will interpret transcultural intermedia productions across literary works and films through the lens of theoretical ideas such as rewriting, intertextuality, multimodality, and cultural appropriation.
Priority will be given to students enrolled in the Major or Minor Program in English to Chinese Translation. Other students will be admitted as space permits.
